大卫·乔恩·吉尔摩(David Gilmour)，作为平克·佛洛伊德（Pink Floyd）乐队的主音吉他手而广为人知，他1944年3月6日生于英国剑桥。当平克佛洛伊德请戴维吉尔摩(David Gilmour)作为日渐怪异的Syd Barrett的替补吉他手的时候，他已经跟乐队的成员很熟悉了。
1968年，Barrett的精神彻底出问题已经不可能继续乐队工作的时候，Gilmour适时地成为乐队固定成员参与制作了第二张专辑A Saucerful of Secrets。
1978年，平克·弗洛伊德乐队处于闲置状态，Gilmour录制了自己的独奏专辑moody David Gilmour.
1984年，与Roger Waters（制作人）分手后，Gilmour给FACE组合写旋律。
2006年，回归后，一曲On an Island ，进入了前10。

作为Pink Floyd成员

David并不是Pnk Floyd的原班人马，早在1964年，Syd Barrett就组建了PF乐队。
1967年12月，鼓手Nick Manson邀请David加入Pink Floyd。David于次年1月正式加入，从此乐队便有了五位成员。1 967年后半年，Syd Barrett的天才头脑终于碰到了最大的敌人。他患上了进行性的精神紧张症，一上台他的症状就发作，这位吉他手刚一开始是跟不上趟儿，再后来简直就不知道该演奏些什么。一场美国之行也因吉他手的职能瘫痪而草草结束。此后David替代了Syd的吉他演奏部分。Syd则仍坚持写作和参加录音，这样维持了几个月后，他彻底离队了。这样一来，David正式成为了第一吉他手，还与Roger Waters， Richard Wright一同担任主唱。
David的吉他演奏与歌曲写作是Pink Floyd在上世纪70年代取得世界性成功的主要因素。同样也少不了他在《The Dark Side Of The Moon》（月之暗面1973），这张伟大专辑中表现出的独特嗓音与吉他秀。此专辑在2003年被滚石杂志评选为史上最佳专辑的第43位，在2006年澳洲广播公司举行的投票中成为了乐迷心目中“我最喜爱的专辑”。不仅如此，它还在美国告示牌专辑榜上连续停留了741周（14年）之久，创下排行榜中最长寿的专辑纪录。同时，这张唱片也是史上最畅销专辑第五位，销量超过四千万张。

个人发展

David在1978年发行了第一张个人专辑《David Gilmour》，邀请贝斯手Rick Wills和鼓手Willie Wilson共同打造。这张专辑进入了英国榜和美国榜。David的第二张个人专辑《About Face》在1984年发行，并再次打入了英国榜前20位。
Roger Waters在1985年离开乐队，此后David便担当起乐队的支柱。与Nick Mason和Rick Wright一起创作了Pink Floyd的新专辑《A Momentary Lapse of Reason》。接下来是1994年的《The Division Bell》，专辑中包含了由David和Richard Wright创作的乐器放逐。94年的这张专辑也为Pink Floyd赢得了唯一的一次格莱美奖。这两张专辑在大西洋的两边的排行榜上都占据了冠军的位置。他们的世界巡演门票每次都被一扫而空。1995年，继续发行一张现场表演的专辑《P.U.L.S.E》。1996年，Pink Floyd进入美国摇滚名人堂，他们在2005年11月也在英国获得了同样的荣誉。David在同年因对音乐的贡献而获得司令勋章（CBE）。

2005年7月2日，David与Pink Floyd一起，包括Roger Waters，参与了慈善音乐会Live8的演出。这使得Pink Floyd的专辑《Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd》销量激增10倍。为呼应Live8的主题，David把唱片收益全部捐给了慈善机构。
2006年3月，已经年满62岁的David Gilmour终于在时隔22年之后发行了第三张个人专辑《On An Island》，专辑在美国发行后第一周的销量为9万6千张，名列本周Billboard 200专辑榜第六位。而《On An Island》上周在英国上榜时曾获得英国专辑榜的冠军。22年几乎相当于一个人生命的三分之一，22年也是David Gilmour艺术生涯的一半。这张让歌迷等待了20年的专辑果然没有让人失望。就好像本张专辑的封面一样，David Gilmour在《On An Island》中带给我们的音乐是异常恬静而安详的，可以说是当今乐队很难做出来的那种感觉。整张专辑都是非常英国化的，David Gilmour那种耐人品味的内敛本性也依然没有改变，专辑开场独奏曲目《Castellorizon》和同名单曲《On An Island》一下就可以抓住很多老Pink迷的心。值得一提的是，同名单曲《On An Island》中的和声完全就是Pink Floyd标志性的和声的再版，为这首歌献声的是著名民谣歌手大卫·克罗斯比（David Crosby）和格拉汉姆·纳什（Graham Nash）。另外，《Red Sky At Night》，《Smile》也都是值得静静品位的“佳肴”。其他为本张专辑助阵的嘉宾还包括：Richard Wright，老牌乐队Soft Machine和Matching Mole的成员罗伯特·怀特（Robert Wyatt），B.J. 2008年5月，在英国举行的Ivor Novello颁奖礼中，英国作曲与作词家协会给David Gilmour颁发了终身成就奖。9月，芬达吉他制作了两个版本的David Gilmour亲笔签名黑色Strat吉他模型。那把“残旧的”Fender Stratocaster™模型是按照David30岁时使用的吉他的漆皮订制的。另外一把“新的用旧了的”模型包括了所有订制的部件，不过没有漆皮。
同年，Pink Floyd键琴手Richard Wright在9月15日病逝，而其队友David Gilmour的现场演出CD+DVD专辑Live In Gdańsk则在一星期后的9月22日面世。Live In Gdańsk是David Gilmour在2006年8月26日于波兰格但斯克(Gdańsk)举行的大型露天音乐会，以纪念波兰的团结工联(The Solidarity Trade Union)成立二十六周年。Richard Wright是Live In Gdańsk里的伴奏乐手，换句话说当时他已是带着癌细胞在台上演奏。听着这张专辑看着这出影片，难勉叫人感到丝丝的伤感，仿佛有着对他作悼念的意义。除了Richard Wright之外，还有Roxy Music的结他手Phil Manzanera，三人时期Pink Floyd的Live Session低音结他手Guy Pratt及键琴手Jon Carin，自73年已跟Pink Floyd合作的色士风手**** Parry，管弦乐指挥是为多出Krzysztof Kieślowski电影创作过配乐的Zbigniew Preisner。Phil Manzanera、Guy Pratt和Zbigniew Preisner正是Gilmour的2005年个人专辑On An Island之班底。音乐会上，也完完整整地玩出了On An Island的所有作品，只是一曲Take A Breath“调了位”而已；当中的歌曲仍是那么美。此外便是Pink Floyd的作品选，毕竟在台上有半队Pink Floyd啊。
