人物生平

1943年12月31日，生于美国西南部的新墨西哥州，从小喜爱音乐，显露出良好的音乐素质。
1955年，祖母送他一把吉布森F孔纯音爵士吉他，开始学习音乐。青年时代在大学攻读建筑设计专业。
1964年，大学毕业，开始在各民谣俱乐部演出，与新基督乐人(New Christy Minstrels)组合主唱兰迪·斯巴克斯结下了深厚的友谊。兰迪还专门为丹佛写了一首歌“这条路”（This Ro morningad），希望丹佛能有更好的未来。
1965年，查德·米歇尔三重唱（Chad Mitchell Trio）主唱离团，他经过当时知名的四兄弟合唱组（The Brothers Four）推荐，通过试唱成为了新的主唱，并开始随团在各大学巡回演出。同年创作了自己的第一首歌曲“献给波比”（”For Bobbie”）。
1966年，发行第一张个人专辑《约翰·丹佛的演唱》（”John Denver Sings”），大部分都是翻唱别人的歌曲，只作为圣诞礼物发行了250张，但其中的一曲自己谱曲的“乘喷射客机离去”（”Leaving On A Jet Plane”）被彼得、保罗、玛丽三重唱（Peter,Paul & Mary）于1967年发现并翻唱后便名声大噪。1969年，他还与保罗·普莱斯托皮诺（Paul Prestopino）和彼得、保罗、玛丽三重唱合唱了这首歌曲。
1967年，与安妮·玛塔尔（Annie Martell）结婚，但由于生理问题无法生育，于是先后领养了一子一女。
1968年，迈克尔·约翰逊（Michael Johnson）加入三重唱，两人共同担任主唱。后来约翰逊以“比蓝色更忧郁”(“Bluer Than Blue”)而成名。
1969年，三重唱解散，他在咖啡馆举办几场演唱会后发行了第一章商业性个人专辑《韵律与缘由》（”Rhymes And Reasons”），其中收录了“乘喷射客机离去”。
1971年，一心从事乡村歌曲的创作和演唱，与比尔·丹诺夫（Bill Danoff）结下了深厚的友谊。由比尔所作，描写西弗吉尼亚山区美丽风光的歌曲“乡间小路，带我回家”（”Take Me Home,Country Roads”）后来成为丹佛的招牌曲目。
1972年，因演唱“高高洛基山”（”Rocky Mountain High”）进入电视银幕，成为美国广播公司“午夜特别节目”的主持人，并为当年冬奥会创作主题歌“和平就是胜利”（”Victory Is Peace”）。
1974年，成为美国唱片最畅销的艺人。
1975年，他为好友雅克·库斯托的轮船“加里普索”（”Calypso”）号专门写了一首歌“加里普索”（”Calypso”）。他后来还为雅克写了四首没有发行的歌曲“风般的阿尔西昂（”Alcyone,The Wind”）、“鲸之歌”（”Whale Song”）、“十一月的风暴”（”Storms Of November”）和“蓝蓝水世界”（”Blue Water World”），而其中“风般的阿尔西昂”是为雅克的另一艘船“阿尔西昂”（”Alcyone”）号写的。
1976年，开办了自己的唱片公司。
1977年，拍摄了他的第一部电影《噢，天哪！》（”Oh,God!”）。同年，猫王去世，詹姆斯·波顿（James Burton）等三名猫王原乐队成员加入约翰丹佛的乐队，并发行了专辑《我想生存》（”I Want To Live”）。
1978年，发行了同名专辑《约翰·丹佛》（”John Denver”），以摇滚风格为主。
1979年，邓小平同志访美，约翰·丹佛应邀在华盛顿的肯尼迪文化中心为邓小平同志演唱了自己的拿手曲目。
1981年，他与“世界三大美声男高音”之一普拉奇多·多明戈（Placido Domingo）合唱了一曲“或许爱”（”Perhaps Love”）。他还到过中国、前苏联演出，并热衷于慈善事业和环保事业。他在同年为中国之行创作了歌曲“上海的微风”（”Shanghai Breezes”）。
1982年，与安妮·玛塔尔离婚。
1984年，再次为冬奥会创作主题歌“只是一个梦”（”Just A Dream Away”）。
1985年，他到苏联演出，成为美国第一个在冷战（Cold War）时期到苏联演出的歌手。其录音于2007年发行。
1986年，他到爱尔兰演出，有演出的录像，但从未正式发行。同年，他为纪念挑战者号航天飞机的全体成员创作歌曲“为我飞翔”（”Flying For Me”），收录在专辑《同一个世界》（”One World”）中。同年，与苏联歌手亚历山大·格拉斯基（Александра Градского）合唱歌曲“我们为何要制造武器”，歌曲讲述了一个美国人和一个苏联人各自的成长经历，对战争作出了深刻的反省，发出了渴望和平的呐喊。
1988年，与澳大利亚歌手及演员卡桑德拉·迪兰尼（Cassandra Delaney）结婚，并在服药治好不育症后生下一女。
1989年，发行单曲“种植、保护树木”（”Plant Conservation Trees”），呼吁大家尽可能多地种植树木。
1992年，在中国北京举办了演唱会。
1993年，与卡桑德拉·迪兰尼离婚。
1995年，他在二月为了救助濒危野生动物举办了一场演唱会。同年，他创作了两首新歌“拯救之时”（”Healing Time”）和“彷徨的灵魂”（”Wandering Soul”），并于8月在演唱会中演唱了它们。但可惜的是这两首歌都没有发行。
1997年，雅克·库斯托逝世，他为库斯托专门创作了一首歌曲“蓝蓝水世界”（”Blue Water World”）并于6月将其演唱。但还没等到这首歌发行，他就于10月12日在加利福尼亚海湾因飞机失事不幸身亡，终年53岁。他在逝世前两周与休斯敦交响乐团合作举办了最后一场大型演唱会，结尾的那首同样未发行的歌曲“回归黄石河”（Yellowstone,Coming Home）成为了他的绝唱。

遇难

1997年10月12日，丹佛驾驶的Long-EZ两人座飞机坠毁在加州Grove镇的太平洋海岸，当时丹佛离起飞于蒙特瑞潘尼苏拉机场不久即失事。
当时丹佛所驾驶的Long-EZ飞机，为两人座试验性飞机，70年代由巴特·鲁坦设计而成。不过丹佛所独有的飞机，机身编号N555JD，则是丹佛买来使用，并且针对鲁坦原先的出版设计有些改变：燃油阀控制器搬动位置，原先置于起落架控制杆尾部以及飞行员双腿之间，搬至驾驶员后方以及左前方的舱壁上。

评价

约翰·丹佛是美国著名的乡村音乐歌手，其唱片曾获24次金唱片奖及4次白金唱片奖。在美国乡村音乐史上，其地位无人可敌。他的音乐充满了对自然的热爱。丹佛还是位令人敬佩的环保主义者。他创建和积极地赞助了多个促进人道主义和保护地球的公益组织。他音乐中那份中肯理性依然可以长盛不衰，影响至深。（齐鲁网）
